This project is an intervention and expansion of the historic Building Association House designed by architect Sven Markelius in 1937. Located at Hästen 25 in Norrmalm, central Stockholm, the building sits amidst a diverse history. The district has now evolved into a modern neighborhood characterized mainly by office buildings and commercial centers.
Our approach revolves around three primary perspectives on the relationship between the old and the new. Firstly, for the existing building, we revitalized and utilized the original traffic flow, using subtle light interventions to transform the interior space. Secondly, we added three floors of open office space to the new section, creating a striking contrast with the traditional offices on the lower levels. Lastly, in the middle section, we retained and highlighted the restaurant and club space on the old building's top floor, reactivating the original flow and making it an essential element that serves both the new and old structures.
